Core Modules:

BC501: Introduction to Biblical Counselling: The course is designed to address the fundamentals of Biblical Counselling by an introduction to the principles and practices of Biblical Counselling. It offers a general introduction to the basic concepts in Biblical Counselling and its distinctive features. (2 credits)

BC502: Theology of Biblical Counselling: This course examines the key biblical doctrines and their relevance to the counselling ministry. At the end of the course the students will be able to see the relations between theology and counselling, and effectively help others to work towards change by having the right doctrines. (2 credits)

BC503: Theories of Counselling: The course is an examination of the counselling theories of prominent Christian Counsellors and Counselling Organisations. Students will be guided toward the development of a distinctly Christian counselling model, and provide a critique of psychoanalytic, behaviouristic, and humanistic of psychotherapy, the systemic, cognitive, and eclectic approaches. (2 credits)

 

BC504: Marriage and Family Counselling: Marriage and family problems are present in the majority of counselling cases. This course will give an overview of general marriage and family counselling issues relating to the content and process of counselling. Included in the course are discussions of the biblical basis and purposes of marriage, husband/wife roles and responsibilities, finances, in-law problems, and how to resolve conflicts that arise, and establishing effective communication. (2 credits)

Elective Modules:

BC511: Dynamics of Biblical Change: The goal in counselling session is change. This module teaches the change process that comes from an intimate knowledge of God and how that affects the person on a daily basis. This course also provides an overview of the counselling process presenting a comprehensive methodological model for promoting biblical change in people. (2 credits)

BC512: Counselling Issues: This course emphasizes the process of change for counselees in the context of specific topics in biblical counselling. Topics addressed include decision-making, peace-making, addictions (pornography, etc.), abuse, etc. (2 credits)

BC513: Counselling in the Local Church: The purpose of this course is to: broaden students’ understanding of counselling to include all relationships. It seeks to build a thoroughly biblical understanding of the local church as a ministering community where everyone plays a part. It will help students find their place of ministry within the context of the local church and to help others do the same. (2 credits)

BC514: Biblical Counselling Practicum: This course consists of observations and discussions of counselling sessions and practice in counselling by videos. It is designed to help the student learn practical skills in counselling by observation, evaluation, critique, discussion and actual practice. Pre-Requisite: Any two of the following modules - BC501, BC502, BC503, BC504. (2 credits)
